Sony claims this high AF performance can be expected even with their 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverters attached. Not bad! Naturally, this adventure-ready lens is resistant to both dust and moisture and has a fluorine coating to dispel the usual suspects trying to grime up your front element.

Physical features to intrigue and excite include a function ring (to control power focus or swap quickly between full frame and APS-C crop), four customizable focus hold buttons, a focal range limiter, and a drop-in filter slot. The FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS includes a normal filter (which is part of the optical assembly and can not be removed completely) which can be replaced with an internal polarizing filter (sold separately). The lens hood is the convenient yet secure lock-button kind.
