Coming soon from Sony: the world’s lightest 300mm f/2.8 lens to date!
About the same weight as the original FE 70–200mm GM & half the weight of the FE 400mm f/2.8 GM, yet sporting the same breathtaking G Master quality and a carefully optimized balance, the FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS is going to be one heck of a lens. You need only check out the sample photos, below, to see how crisp and distortion-free subjects can come through.
Like the Alpha 9 III (with which this lens would make an excellent pairing), the Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens will be available in February. However, we are ready in-store and online to secure your pre-order now! Stop in today and have a chat—we’re waiting! 🙂
Whether you’re stalking elusive, spooky wildlife or pinpointing decisive moments in high-adrenaline, high-speed sporting events, the agility, autofocus performance, reach, and brightness of the anticipated FE 300mm f/2.8 GM make for a highly appealing package. And don’t forget that this lens is equipped with a three-mode Optical Steady Shot stabilization system, making it even easier to use effectively free from a tripod. (Mode 1 is standard; Mode 2 is tuned to support stable panning; Mode 3 is optimized for sports. Compatible camera bodies can use their processing power to further decrease blue by communicating directly with the lens’s OSS.)
The G Master standards are here: aesthetically optimal bokeh (gotta take advantage of that f/2.8 max), corner-to-corner sharpness, astonishing resolving power, exceptionally little ghosting and flare, and fast, accurate autofocus performance. The magnesium alloy chassis and general build quality promise durability and reliability in addition to extraordinary portability.
Three Super ED elements, one ED element, and Nano AR Coating II do a lot of the heavy lifting vis a vis optical excellence, while twin XD Linear Motors drive the fast, accurate, and quiet AF system capable of tracking at 120+ frames per second. Sony claims this high AF performance can be expected even with their 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverters attached. Not bad! Naturally, this adventure-ready lens is resistant to both dust and moisture and has a fluorine coating to dispel the usual suspects trying to grime up your front element.
Specifically designed to match or exceed the abilities of the very cutting edge in camera bodies—including the Alpha 9 III, also slated for a February release—the FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS offers blazingly fast operation, with unprecedented handheld possibilities. Its exceptional mobility and operability support high-end professional creation in demanding situations. Even in less demanding situations, the value of significantly reduced fatigue is incalculable.
Physical features to intrigue and excite include a function ring (to control power focus or swap quickly between full frame and APS-C crop), four customizable focus hold buttons, a focal range limiter, and a drop-in filter slot. The FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS includes a normal filter (which is part of the optical assembly and can not be removed completely) which can be replaced with an internal polarizing filter (sold separately). The lens hood is the convenient yet secure lock-button kind.
