Easy entry into imaging with the new R100 two lens kit

Canon has announced a new EOS R100 two-lens kit that allows you to shoot from as wide as 18mm all the way out to 300mm. The kit includes the EOS R100, the RF-S18–45mm f/4.5–6.3 IS STM, the newly-announced RF75–300mm f/4–5.6, and a handsome shoulder bag made to keep your new kit as totable as it needs to be to preserve moments in a bustling life.

Ah, moments… life is a long string of moments—moments that you know are meaningful at the time; moments that you find out later meant everything; even the little moments that don’t mean much on their own but add up to represent the experience of living life. There’s no better way to relive your favorites, nor to reflect and uncover deeper truths, than to capture what you can as you move through them.

Why not make it easier to do so? As I noted when the EOS R100 first came out, if you’re using a phone, compact camera, or something similar, the EOS R100 APS-C mirrorless camera is a great option from Canon to step up your game and produce more stunning photos than ever. Sometimes I get a little lazy and trend toward using my phone to take photos of my son, and it’s always a bit of a jolt when I reach for the real camera and realize just how much nicer the results are.

The two-lens kit makes it dead-simple to start capturing more expressive and powerful images from your own life. The EOS R100 body features a 24.1 MP APS-C Dual-Pixel CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 8 processor, the pair of which are more than capable of providing effective, modern autofocus features like eye detection and human tracking. Bursts can be as fast as 6.5 fps (RAW or JPG), so you’ll never miss that perfect moment. It can record videos in 4K at 24p (with a slight crop of the imaging area) or HD video at up to 120 fps for your slowwww motion needs. Built-in Wifi for instant sharing and app control is a given, of course. Plus, the camera is made to be easy to learn and use, so the whole family can take it in turn to help record your beautiful lives together. “Creative Assist” allows you to control technical settings with natural-language inputs like “background blur,” “brightness,” and “saturation,” in real time live view; “Creative Filters” allow you to easily add various effects in-camera to output breathtaking images with a unique look.

The wide zoom is a great choice for indoor shots. The RF-S18–45mm f/4.5–6.3 IS STM ranges from quite wide (for family rooms and family reunions) to “normal” range (for off-the-cuff captures). The stepping motor and image stabilization built-in will help you capture clear, striking images without shakiness or missing focus.

The new lens, similar to an EF mount version, allows a long reach at an affordable price. The 2.8″x5.8″ RF75–300mm f/4–5.6 has a 35mm equivalent field of view of 120–480mm—not bad at all! Going telephoto unlocks an oft-forgotten vector of image craft: compression. The longer the lens, the closer the background will look. It is my preferred way to work, personally. Plus, background separation and bokeh are increased when compared to the same f-stop on a wider lens. Don’t let that f/4–5.6 maximum aperture scare you: you can definitely still get some exciting looks with these specs.

And let’s not forget that handsome carrying case! (Check it out in the video, above.) If you’re looking for an all-in-one solution to step into the world of mirrorless cameras, this is it. Click here to order now or visit our friendly imaging experts at a Mike’s Camera near you!
