Relive the joy of film: new gear from Fuji announced

Today, Fujifilm announced two new cameras and two new lenses, one each in their medium format (GFX) and APS-C (X) sensor lines. All of these are expected to be available in about a month, so we won’t have to wait too long…

Read on for all the delightful details, and stop in at your favorite Mike’s Camera to pre-order today!

X-T50

The X-T50 is proof that Fujifilm listens to their users and wants to constantly improve the experience. A new iteration of their luxuriously retro design, including a first-ever dedicated film simulation mode dial, promises a joyful experience for the more analogue-minded creator. Fuji’s latest back-side illuminated 40.2 MP sensor, digital teleconverter, 7-stop IBIS, and 6.2K video capabilities should allow the nuts and bolts quality to equal the pure delight factor.

Sharing many of the exciting advantages of the also-new X100VI, the X-T50 adds the ability to change lenses. Vis a vis X-T– cameras, the X-T50 is not a replacement for the X-T30 II, but will be a companion in the lineup. Still, there are numerous reasons to pick the X-T50 over the X-T30 II:

  • X-Trans CMOS 5 HR vs. X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor
  • X-Processor 5 vs. X-Processor 4
  • 6.2K 30p (or DCI4K 60p) max video quality vs. DCI4K 30p
  • 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording vs. 4:2:0 8-bit
  • ProRes RAW
  • 60 minutes continuous video recording vs. 30
  • And more!

Put the cutting-edge autofocus algorithm to the test recording both breathtaking photos and professional level video. The camera is even set up to jump directly to the cloud via Frame.IO. Join the next generation… without giving up what made the old ones great.

Available body-only or in a kit with either the XC15–45mm f/3.5–5.6 OIS PZ or XF16–50mm f/2.8–4.8 R LM WR. Choose from black, silver, or charcoal silver variants.

GFX100S II

The GFX100S was a historically innovative release: a medium format sensor in a body sized for a full-frame? Amazing. The GFX100S II brings the concept into—you guessed it—the next generation. Weighing just 1.95 lbs and featuring a solid, positive grip, this 102 MP powerhouse is amazingly portable for its kind.

The newly-developed sensor is ready and raring to capture detail-packed, color-rich images. The new X-Processor 5 engine will support capture at up to 7 frames per second, and the latest tracking autofocus system is effective all the way down to -5.5 EV. And you should be able to get clear shots in that level of darkness, too, thanks to the impressive 8-stop built-in stabilization sytem. That same IBIS system enables a multi-shot high resolution mode that can provide images up to a mind-boggling 400 MP.

The GFX100S II, of course, offers Fujifilm’s highly renowned film simulation modes, including the new REALA ACE mode. Keep an eye on images as they develop with a 5.76 million dot EVF and 3.2″ three-direction tilt touchscreen.

Videographers, this one’s for you too: capture 4K 30p video at up to 720 Mbps (!) 4:2:2 10-bit in-camera, in a variety of industry-standard formats (including ProRes, Blackmagic RAW, and more).

Available body-only.

FUJINON GF500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR lens

Talk about reach! This monster zoom (35mm equivalent FOV: 396mm) is a powerful optic for an extra-powerful sensor. Five ED and two Super ED elements quash aberrations and allow even the brand-new 102 MP sensor to record crisp details from far, far away. A 6-stop optical stabilizer helps counter-balance the trickiness of working from a distance. Focus preset options further streamline the experience for professional capture. A weight of only 3.03 lbs and weather-resistant design make this a great lens for a long day in the field.

Add a GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter for even more reach! Yow!

(Note: GF = high quality G-mount, R = dedicated aperture control ring, LM = linear motor, OIS = optical image stabilization, WR = weather resistant)

FUJINON XF16–50mm f/2.8–4.8 R LM WR lens

Sharp enough to keep up with the latest 40.2 MP models in the X line, the FUJINON XF16–50mm f/2.8–4.8 R LM WR is a new normal zoom with a lot to offer. Its 35mm equivalent field of view is 24–76mm—an ideal range for most day-to-day situations—and its maximum aperture range is considerably brighter than most “kit” lenses. An internal zoom mechanism maintains its compact length in all positions, which can be highly beneficial when using a gimbal or video rig (especially when considered in combination with its light weight of only 0.53 lbs). A linear motor focusing system can zero in on subjects as close as 9.45″, and the body of the lens is weather-resistant.

(Note: XF = high quality X-mount, R = dedicated aperture control ring, LM = linear motor, WR = weather resistant)
