Available next month: OM-1 Mark II, super-telephoto lens, & wide-angle zoom

Revealing wonder: it’s in our nature. Indeed, is there any better place to find wonder than deep in the thick of nature? And, as lovers of all types of imaging, is there any better response to nature than making a solid effort to… not capture it—for this kind of beauty can not be captured or contained—but rather preserve it and share it with loved ones far and wide.

Continuing an impressive performance streak, the folks at OM SYSTEM have announced a new and improved flagship camera body, unprecedented super-telephoto zoom lens, and a gratifying refresh of a classic wide-angle zoom.

The OM-1 Mark II: adventures await!

Since the inception of the OM legacy, the mission has been clear: make lightweight cameras without sacrificing high-end features or optical quality. The OM-1 Mark II promises to carry on the tradition proudly.

Weighing just over a pound—and utilizing the inherently smaller and lighter Micro Four Thirds system of lenses—the OM-1 Mark II is eminently toteable. Combine that with IP53 dust- and splash-proofing and -10°C freezeproof construction, the OM-1 Mark II makes a strong case for taking the back back roads to find some truly magical places.

Some of the most notable upgrades in Mark II are in computational features. Just tap on the screen to select the true target!

Live ND performance has increased ~15%, as well, offering the equivalent of up to an ND128 in-camera, and… drum roll, please, for a world’s first:

can now be graduated. A simple touch interface lets you set the gradation on they fly, almost instantly. High Res Shot (50 MP handheld, 80 MP tripod) offers more depth than ever, thanks to the tripled color depth capacity of 14-bit RAW files.

The upgrades aren’t just internal. Newly rubberized dials are a welcome sight for frozen or gloved fingers. Intuitive performance is integral to adventure photography: one fumbled dial can be the difference between an award-winning portrait of an elk and blurry pine trees.

M.Zuiko Digital ED 150–600mm f/5–6.3 IS

A worthy companion for the flagship, this 150–600mm superbeast offers an astonishing 35mm equivalent FOV of 1200mm—or 2400mm when paired with the compatible MC-20 teleconverter. The 150–600mm is IPX1 dust- and splaash-proof, fluorine coated, and Sync-IS compatible for versatile handheld performance.

The reach alone makes this an incomparable lens in the Micro Four Thirds lineup, but there’s more! The lens’s minimum focusing distance ranges from 22″ to 110″ (depending on focal length) with a maximum magnification of an impressively macro-esque 0.7x, and can be increased to 1.4x with the MC-20 teleconverter. Telemacro performance in an astronomically long lens… and it’s hand-holdable? Sign me up, wow!

M.Zuiko Digital ED 9–18mm f/4–5.6 II

One of the earliest lenses made for Olympus’s Micro Four Thirds system—in fact, one of the earliest mirrorless lenses, period—the M.Zuiko Digital ED 9–18mm f/4–5.6 has been a consistently popular wide zoom. With version II, OM SYSTEM is bringing a fresh design to an old favorite workhorse, including a completely redesigned hood structure and various other improvements developed over the last 15 years or so.
