The DJI Mic 2 kit is a pocket-sized audio wunderkind. Two tiny, pro-level microphones can be connected to just about any video capture device or used independently as stand-alone field audio recorders. The TX units can connect to any camera or device that has a 3.5mm TRS, USB-C, or Lightning input via the RX unit, but that’s not all! The upgraded v2 microphones can also connect to smartphones, the DJI Osmo Action 4, and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 directly via Bluetooth. Once connected, your audio capture will be instantly upgraded by either the crisp, clear, omnidirectional microphones built into the TX units or any microphone you’d like to plug into either transmitter’s 3.5mm input, such as a lavalier mic for discreetly wired interviews.

The built-in microphones can handle sound pressure as high as 120 dB SPL and can handle 32 bit float recording internally, but if you manage to accidentally clip a little bit, there’s a secondary -6 dB safety track. New intelligent noise canceling functionality should be a very welcome for vloggers on the street, and an impressive wireless transmission range of 820 feet offers tantalizing prospects for adventurous creators.

Each transmitter/mic has a 6 hour battery life (extendable to 18 hours if connected to the charger case—great for stationary shoots) and an 8 GB internal memory, which is sufficient for recording 14 hours of 48 kHz 24-bit lossless audio.

Elegant functionality

DJI’s engineers certainly appear to have streamlined the Mic 2 from its first iteration. Everything just works. The charging case houses the receiver and both transmitters, plus all the adapter cables you might need. The case also automatically pairs the units inside while they’re charging and turns them on the second you open the case so you’re ready and raring.

The larger touch screen and new dial on the receiver promise effortless, intuitive control, and a magnetic clip for each transmitter strikes a perfect balance of versatility and simplicity.
