Five years ago, Sony introduced the G Master designation for certain FE lenses, and there are now thirteen awe-inspiring members of that family. If you are using a Sony E-mount camera and want a lens developed with the utmost level of quality in mind, regardless of the impact on portability and price, you need look no further than the lenses listed below.
If you’re using a newer high-end model like the Sony α1, no other Sony lenses will allow you to take advantage of the full extent of your camera’s abilities.
G Master lenses are available in a broad range of focal lengths, but they all share two baseline qualities:
- they are extremely sharp and can resolve extremely high-resolution images across the whole frame in the areas you choose to bring into focus
- they are very bright and will produce bokeh which has been lovingly engineered for maximum beauty in the areas you choose to leave out of focus
Other shared features include 0.01-micron surface precision on lens elements, fluorine coating and weather-resistant sealing for improved durability, linear-response manual focus, and AF motors designed for quiet, efficient focusing.
Explore the current lineup below! Wide-angle lenses are marked in gray, normal lenses in red, and telephotos in a darker gray. Click any image to order yours today or visit a Mike’s Camera near you. It’s time to treat your camera to the best of the best.

Prime lenses
FE 24mm f/1.4 GM
This super-bright lens is the lightest in its class and features two XA (eXtreme Aspherical) lens elements to ensure corner-to-corner image quality.

FE 35mm f/1.4 GM
Arriving this month, the 35mm f/1.4 can focus as close as 0.89′ (27 cm) for a maximum magnification of 0.23x.

FE 50mm f/1.2 GM
Few lenses have a wider aperture than this one, and it’s a joy to control using the physical aperture ring. You can even switch the clickiness of the ring on and off, depending on your need for quiet operation. Arriving mid-May.

FE 85mm f/1.4 GM
Perhaps the perfect choice for portraiture, this lens is a little bit telephoto—but not too much! Capture every detail with 50 line pairs/mm of resolving power.

FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS
This lens trades a slightly narrower maximum aperture for optical stabilization and an optical apodization element that creates uniquely appealing bokeh.

FE 135mm f/1.8 GM
XA, ED, and Super ED lens elements completely forbid unpleasant aberrations from entering your images, while the customizable focus hold button, focus range limiter, and easy de-click for movies make control effortless.

FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS
At just 102.2 oz, this lens is surprisingly maneuverable. Magnesium alloy exterior and interior components as well as the lightweight carbon fiber hood make it tough, too. Four customizable focus hold buttons and a function ring (in addition to a plethora of switches for quick operational adjustment) allow you to meld with your gear and focus on getting the image of a lifetime.

FE 600mm f/4 GM
The 600mm f/4 shares the durability, relative lightness, and ease of control found on the 400mm, but with a 50% longer reach. Pair with a 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter for absolutely insane distance!

Zoom lenses
FE 12–24mm f/2.5 GM
Get ultrawide views with hardly any aberration, thanks to the largest XA element ever made for a Sony α lens.

FE 16–35mm f/2.8 GM
When you need wide but not crazy wide, the 16–35mm is the way to go. Enjoy corner-to-corner sharpness and great clarity even in low light.

FE 24–70mm f/2.8 GM
Could there be a more foundational zoom lens? No pro’s kit is complete without a 24–70mm. Pair with the 70–200mm for best results.

FE 70–200mm f/2.8 GM OSS
An innovative dual floating focus system operates quickly, precisely, and without any hint of breathing. If you’re interested in video, the 70–200mm’s parfocal design is a huge plus (it will hold the focal point even while zooming in or out).

FE 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6 GM OSS
Compact in size but looooong in reach, this lens is a hoot and a half to use. There’s even a brilliant little dial used to adjust the zoom smoothness. Higher torque allows for slow, precise adjustments, while a lower setting permits lightning fast reactions. The difference is palpable!
