Born cinematic: Nikon ZR developed with RED

For their first-ever co-developed camera body, Nikon and RED have united to craft Nikon’s first compact Cinema camera—whether as a primary body, B-shooter, run-and-gunner, drone rider, or any other capacity, the 6K, full frame Nikon ZR aims to be iconic. Ready to bring some stories to life? Delivery starts toward the end of October—pre-order yours today!

Uniting Nikon’s rich optical history with RED’s innovative color science, there’s a lot here to intrigue a cinematic professional:

  • multiple RAW choices, including Redcode/R3D NE
  • in-camera custom LUTs
  • 32-bit float audio (!)
  • fully articulated 4″ DCI-P3 screen for easy, accurate monitoring
  • 6K 60p, 4K 120p, 1080 240p, and more

That 32 bit float is pretty cool. In a nutshell, the dynamic range of the recorder, whether using internal or external microphones*, is massive. The odds of unrecoverable audio are extremely low. Using the Nikon Z-mount unlocks all NIKKOR lenses (plus other manufacturers’ options, with the right adapters), so the optics are just as flexible as the audio.

*You should be using an external microphone. Check out this new compact shotgun mic!

The body is equipped with a 7.5 stop IBIS system, though you’re probably using a gimbal anyway. 😉 Nikon’s world-renowned autofocus technology will help you nail the shot, as well. If you’re working with other cameras, note that this one will seamlessly integrate with RED Komodos—post-production is fun, but the less you have to do, the better.

Come check it out in-person at FocusPoint and get your reservation locked in! We’d be happy to show you all the wonderful things you’ll be able to do.
