Embrace your inner artist in July

Oh, it’s just a photo, you think. But, dang… it’s a really good one.

You’d think that, with almost 200 years of history, there wouldn’t even be a question as to the validity of photography as art, right? But it’s still a debate in some circles! This month, I officially give you permission to hold your photos in the same high esteem as traditional painting. Why don’t you really lean into it and enshrine your favorite captures on canvas?

This is a good month to try it out. All canvas print orders at Mike’s Camera through the whole month of July will get a solid 20% discount.

So, what’s cool about canvas? It offers some serious advantages to photographers and digital artists of all skill levels and for all images! For your masterpieces, stretched canvas lends a classical panache. Could this image be hung in the Louvre? PROBABLY! On the other end of the spectrum—speaking candidly—the texture of a canvas print can obscure and make irrelevant a great deal of deficiency in the image itself. If you’ve got an image that’s highly emotionally valuable but is unfortunately blurry or if your only copy of an image is disappointingly low-res, a canvas substrate might be just the right way to make a copy that looks as good on the wall as it does in your brain.

That’s not even mentioning the fact that stretched canvas prints are ready to hang in any context, from cowboy chic to modern minimalist, and for that reason are both convenient for yourself and a great option for gift printing.

There are a few things you will have to decide upon when you ask the pros at Mike’s to craft a canvas print for you. First, you’ll need to decide on your finish: satin or metallic? Think “matte or glossy”: neither one is better, but your personal preference can make a huge difference. Second, how thick would you like your stretcher bars to be? We offer 1/2″, 1″, and 2″ thick wood bars to provide the most sumptuous structure for your canvas, depending on the size of the print (and, therefore, its structural requirements) and your aesthetic considerations. Finally, we can adapt the edge treatment to any image you may have. If you can not crop a fraction of the inch, we can do a colored edge or a mirror wrap, which artificially extends the image in a way that won’t attract any special attention. Or, if you happened to leave a little extra space, we can stretch the image itself around the bars, which creates the most seamless possible effect but does slightly cut into the image.

Canvas is a classic option for a reason, and now is the time to order thanks to a generous 1/5 discount. Hop onto mikescamera.com to order now, or stop in at any of our stores to order a little more casually or to get advice from our imaging experts.
