Tamron’s 11–20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD comes to Canon RF-A mount

My goodness, this one’s a landmark! Tamron is releasing their first lens for the Canon RF mount: the 11–20mm f/2.8 Di-III RXD. It’s even compatible with Canon’s body correction capability—a great sign. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a very fruitful partnership over the coming years.

Tamron’s 11–20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD lenses for other mounts have proven favorites in the category, demonstrating incredible optical correction for a clean-looking ultra-wide image, durable construction, and outstanding image quality. The RF-mount version adds a dedicated AF/MF switch for even more palpable control.

The 3.3″ long 11–20mm gets wide enough to tackle just about any scene, without introducing fisheye distortion, and the f/2.8 aperture is bright enough to tackle low-light situations. A minimum focusing distance of 5.9″ at 11mm (9.4″ at 20mm), creating 1:4 magnification, makes this lens a nice choice for a dive into the world of wide-angle close-ups, too.

Videographers (as well as anyone who might wear their camera walking around all day) will appreciate the compact, lightweight, gimbal-friendly frame. Neither will the advantage of the autofocusing system’s near-silent, super-effective RXD motor be missed by same.

Note that this lens is sized for APS-C sensors. It is compatible with full-frame RF-mount cameras, but will produce a vignette around the uncropped image.

Anticipated release date: December 12th, 2024. Go wide, go wild!
