Available November 30, Canon’s latest RF-mount cinema camera is “designed for limitless creative vision,” in their words. The body combines the robustness of a DSLR-style camera with the compactness of mirrorless and houses their powerful 26.67 MP back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, which delivers massively improved read-out speeds over previous versions and features Canon’s next-generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF II tech. Record sumptuous, 6K 30p or 6K-oversampled 4K 120p footage internally and integrate into any workflow with a wide variety of color processing options and RAW flexibility as well as a 12G SDI interface.
The Canon Cinema EOS C80 is available for pre-order online and in-store now and is slated for delivery starting November 30th.

One of the most intriguing new features is a triple base ISO. The sensor can now be set to a base ISO of 800, 3200, or 12,800, allowing for an unprecedented minimization of noise. The very condensed explanation: by changing the base ISO to something higher, less gain is required in low light situations and significantly less grain is produced. This not only makes for higher quality low light footage but, perhaps more importantly, that footage is more consistent with what is captured in bright light. Ultimately we’re looking at an impressive 16 stops of dynamic range or more.

Canon’s acclaimed Dual Pixel CMOS II AF system is in full effect here, with a significantly increased focusing area. Previous implementations utilized about 80% of the sensor for tracking focus; on the EOS C80, the entire imaging area is used. Plus, the EOS iTR AF X algorithm offers incredible performance when identifying and tracking human forms, eyes, animals, and more.

Monitoring can be done using the built-in 3.5″ LCD vari-angle, 2.76 million dot touch screen or full-size HDMI out. Other interfacing options include built-in SDI (1x 12-G/3-G SDI OUT + BNC terminals) for uncompressed video transfer, two three-pin mini-XLR inputs, 3.5mm audio jack, 2.5mm stereo mini remote terminal, ethernet, multi-function shoe, and more.
The EOS C80 includes an internal, mechanical ND filter with five levels up to a max of ten stops of darkening. Take ultimate control of your exposure without having to compromise your desired depth of field in just about any lighting situation.
Various other new body design tweaks make this one of the most intuitive EOS Cinema cameras yet. Plus, a new PL-RF adapter brings the whole EOS RF system into the next level of cinematic integration.
