The SIGMA 18–50mm f/2.8 DC DN | Contemporary was SIGMA’s first APS-C size mirrorless dedicated zoom lens. Currently available for E-mount, L-mount, and X-mount, now it’s blazing another trail as the first SIGMA lens for Canon’s RF-mount. The 18–50mm f/2.8 DC DN is the smallest and lightest AF-compatible f/2.8 standard zoom APS-C available, from the time of original release in October 2021 all the way through today.
The 18–50mm f/2.8 DC DN | Contemporary will be available for the Canon RF mount in mid-July at a Mike’s Camera near you.

The combination of a 28.8mm–80mm full-frame equivalent field of view and super-bright f/2.8 aperture makes for a strong contender in almost any day-to-day photographic situation. Add in the lens’ extremely compact size—2.72″ diameter, 2.93″ length, 10.58 oz—and sharp optical glass, and you’re looking at a lens that never needs to leave your camera.
The wide aperture allows an equally wide range of control over bokeh and depth of field expression. A tiny minimum focusing distance of 4.76″ (1:2.8x) at 18mm, which equates to a working distance of just over 1″, also allows a huge degree of creative freedom.
The lens’ 10 groups of 13 elements, including one SLD and three aspherical elements, have been carefully honed to control aberrations and keep the whole image sharp throughout the zoom range.
Ultimately, this lens’ track record over the last three years on other mounts speaks for itself. Now, Canon RF-mount users can enjoy the high-performance and high-quality of this lens in their native mount, with more inevitably to come. A control algorithm including AF drive and communication speed optimization has been developed specifically for Canon RF Mount interchangeable lenses. In addition to realizing high-speed AF, the lens also supports Servo AF and in-camera aberration correction in compatible camera bodies.
The mount is rubber-sealed to insulate its high-end components from the elements. If you are already invested in the lens in a different mount but would like to use it on your Canon RF body, Mount Conversion Service is available.
