See more of the world with a new fast, compact, wide-angle zoom from Sony

Sony is introducing another fast, compact zoom lens to the E-mount system. Available in May 2024, the FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G lens offers a bright aperture, highly useful field of view, and excellent optical quality in an easy-to-carry package.

That lovely f/2.8 constant maximum aperture means great low-light performance and no shortage of bokeh for the 16–25mm, and can be especially useful for filmmakers. The ability to work in a wide variety of lighting situations and tastefully blurred backgrounds are fundamental elements to producing pro-quality content! Minimal zoom extension means minimized center of gravity shifting, too, and users of gimbals and/or video rigs rejoice to hear it.

No matter how highly performing your body is, it takes a highly performing lens to realize that power. Sony’s state-of-the-art optical design ensures plenty of resolution to match the latest sensors, and yes, of course the FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G is compatible with Sony’s latest body/lens synthesis technology (e.g. Active Mode in-body image stabilization and focus breathing compensation). Two specially optimized linear motors drive a fast, quiet, and accurate auto focus system designed to keep up with even the most demanding tracking—expect smooth, stable performance even when recording 4K 120p video footage.

Color bleeding? Subdued.

Flare? Demolished.

Ghosting? Ghosted.

Did I mention that this performance is packed in tight? At 14.5 oz and only 3×3⅝ inches, the FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G is ready to go anywhere. Whether you’re shooting breathtaking mountain landscapes, recording interviews with the movers and shakers in your local government, or just want to get the whole thing in one shot, your back will breathe more easily… metaphorically.

Oh, and one more thing. Did you notice how close the lens is to its subject in the image at the top of the page? The FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G‘s minimum focusing distance is a mere 0.56′ at 16mm (0.73’ at 25mm). Boom! Thankfully, manual control is not compromised: a focusing ring, zoom ring, and aperture ring (with optional detent) are all present, as are an AF/MF switch and customizable focus-hold button.

As one might expect from a G-series lens, the FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G is dust- and moisture-resistant and the front element is oleophobic.
