Fuji Tuesday: fresh GFX100 II body, trio of new medium format lenses

A sweeping announcement from Fujifilm today includes a new flagship medium format camera and three lenses to go with it. Two of them are tilt-shift lenses, for ultimate professional control, and of those one can achieve a solid 0.5x magnification. Read on for full details, and remember that you can always pre-order at a Mike’s Camera near you!

Fujifilm GFX100 II + new video grip

From Fujifilm: “GFX100 II brings a new blazingly fast 102-megapixel large-format sensor to deliver up to 8fps in high-speed continuous mode, surgically accurate subject detection and tracking AF, and advanced video features that have never existed in any previous GFX System or X Series camera. Upgraded AI-developed autofocus algorithms and a new 9.44-million dot EVF bring the action accurately into view for photographers, while full-width 4K/60p, 4:2:2 ProRes video and
accessory-free delivery of files to Frame.io directly from the camera, give filmmakers access to
new streamlined workflows and the ability to immediately collaborate with project team
members.

Smart, fast, and stable are the key words here. The X-Processor 5 is more than capable of handling this beast of a sensor as well as numerous enhancements made to Fujifilm’s powerful autofocus algorithms (including AI-driven subject detection). The IBIS system is rated to provide 8 stops of shake control. The vertical battery grip is now optional, offering more flexibility in your workflow, but even with the cost of the grip, the GFX100 II comes in significantly less expensive than the MSRP for its predecessor.

The GFX100 II is capable of recording video at a maximum resolution of 8K 30p with a slight crop, or 4K 60p at full sensor width—an astonishing 55mm. There are also preset crops for legendary FUJINON PREMISTA lenses or 35mm lenses, with the proper adapters. Anamorphic recording is available in-camera with multiple customizations.

Cloud-based workflow is enabled by built-in WiFi and ethernet, both of which are designed for seamless Frame.io integration. Deliver high-res RAW and even 8K ProRes video immediately where it’s needed. Timecode synchronization comes to the GFX system for the first time here, and IDT support for ACES brings GXF color work into the thick of professional videography like never before.

FUJINON GF30mm f/5.6 T/S

From Fujifilm: “GF30mm f/5.6 T/S lens delivers total tilt-shift control that gives photographers ±8.5° of tilt adjustment, shift movements up to ±15mm and up to ±90° of lens rotation. An integrated sensor even keeps track of shift and rotation adjustments, which makes post-production a breeze once the images are made and everything is packed. It also features an integrated tripod mount to ensure that when used with a tripod (sold separately), the lens’s optical axis consistently stays in place, even as tilt and shift adjustments are being made between images. With GF30mm f/5.6 T/S, total control over an image is at the fingertips of any photographer that is ready to shift their perspective.

FUJINON GF55mm f/1.7 R WR

From Fujifilm: “Create images and video that inspires with GF55mm f/1.7 R WR. Its fast F1.7 maximum aperture and 11 aperture blades combine to produce sumptuous bokeh, while its natural viewing angle brings it closer to representing what is seen by the human eye more than any G Mount lens has ever done before. It may be ideally suited for documentary, editorial, travel and environmental portraiture, but it is certainly versatile enough to be useful almost anywhere. With its weather-resistant design and modest weight of only 1.72 lbs. (780g), it’s easy to see why GF55m f/1.7R WR is the perfect partner for almost any adventure.

FUJINON GF110mm f/5.6 T/S MACRO

From Fujifilm: “FUJINON GF110mm f/5.6 TS Macro lens offers tilt-shift control, and thanks to its 0.43m minimum focusing distance and 0.5x maximum magnification factor, it’s perfect for close-up photography that demands total control to produce results with little-to-no distortion. Optically, the lens comprises ED and aspherical lens elements for aberration-free results, while an onboard sensor records the exact adjustments made to the lens’s shift and rotation. This makes post-production involving multiple images simple and easy, especially when Lens Cast Calibration (LCC) tools are needed.
