Athenian beauties: The all-owl workshop is back this August!

Mike’s Camera has a long-standing relationship with raptor sanctuaries in both Colorado and California. They do great work for the environment, and they provide us with photo opportunities you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

Wow!

Every once in a while, we’ll present themed collections of birds. This August in Colorado, HawkQuest will be showing off a variety of different owls! You might see a barn owl, Eurasian eagle owl, spectacled owl, or even a particularly small screech owl, among others.

As usual, the workshop will be presented in three parts (though regulars looking for the shoot only are welcome to do just that) and feature free loaner gear from Tamron. Make sure to bring a valid driver’s license and credit card if you want to use any of the Tamron lenses!

Schedule

Lecture • Tuesday, August 13, 2019 • 6:30–8:30 PM
Mike’s Camera (Denver) or Mike’s Camera (Park Meadows)

Classroom instruction at your choice of two Mike’s Camera locations will prepare you to effectively take advantage of this unique shooting location. We’ll discuss how to shoot birds at rest as well as capturing their occasional flurries of motion.

Shoot • Saturday, August 17, 2019 • 8:00–11:00 AM
Bear Creek Lake Park
Both groups will convene at the park, where the owls will be posed serenely in a natural habitat. HawkQuest handlers will be stationed with each bird to provide zoological information while imaging experts from Mike’s guide small groups through leisurely stations to make sure everyone has a turn with every bird. We’ll point out striking perspectives, answer technical questions, and help you experiment with the Tamron lenses we’re loaning out for free* to make sure you get photos you’ll treasure forever. You can register for this day only, if you’ve taken the class in the past or don’t feel you need the complete package.

*Valid driver’s license and credit card are required as collateral.

Gallery critique • Thursday, August 23, 2019 • 6:30–8:30 PM
Mike’s Camera (Denver) or Mike’s Camera (Park Meadows)

Meet back at the ranch the following Thursday to review techniques/successes/failures with your instructor and fellow classmates. We’ll have a matted 12″ × 18″ print of each person’s image on display (provided it was submitted to the store in a timely manner), and after the evening’s discussion, it’s yours to keep!
