Today in Tamron…

BREAKING NEWS: This Friday (April 27, 2018) our neighborhood Tamron rep, the indefatigable Marc Morris, will be in the Boulder Mike’s Camera headquarters to unbox and present, live for the first time in its final form, their forthcoming FE 28-75mm f/2.8! This is not only the first presentation of a non-prototype lens, it is the first lens of its kind (that is, a 3rd-party standard zoom for the Sony E-Mount). Click here for more information and watch our page for a live stream for those of you who can’t make it. Marc will also be demoing the lens at our perennially exciting (and free!) Demo Day at the Denver Zoo the following day, April 28th, and Demo Day at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on April 29th. California Mike’s customers, despair not: you will also get both an in-store demo as well as an appearance at the Demo Day at the Sacramento Zoo on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Watch the Sacramento Facebook page and our email newsletter for more details.

In addition to the Demo Days, Tamron will also be providing opportunities to test their lenses for free at our Birds of Prey workshops, both with HawkQuest in Colorado and with West Coast Falconry in California.

Rounding out the exciting day in Tamron news, it would seem that two of their lenses (the 70-210mm f/4 & 18-400mm f/3.5-5.6; click the names for more information and to order) received prizes in the 2018 awards by the Technical Image Press Association. This continues a five-year streak for Tamron in the TIPA awards. The full press release is below.

EMBARGO: Not for public release until Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 9:00am EST / 6:00am PT

TAMRON LENSES AWARDED WITH TWO
PRESTIGIOUS TIPA AWARDS IN 2018

April 24, 2018, Saitama, Japan– Tamron Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shiro Ajisaka), a leading manufacturer of optics for diverse applications, announced that the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) presented its TIPA Awards 2018 to two Tamron lenses; 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD (Model A034) for “BEST DSLR TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS” and 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD (Model B028) for “BEST DSLR SUPERZOOM LENS”. Tamron has been named to this TIPA Award for five consecutive years.

Excerpt from the Award Citation of the TIPA Jury

BEST DSLR TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS

Tamron 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD (Model A034)

The 70-210mm focal length has long been the choice of nature and outdoor photographers as an all-in-one lens for a wide variety of subjects and scenes. The constant aperture Tamron 70-210mm for full frame and APS-C DSLRs delivers 4EV vibration compensation when shooting handheld and is constructed with 20 elements in 14 groups, with three LD elements. The minimum focusing distance of 0.95m (3.1 ft) and the nine-bladed diaphragm combine to yield very pleasing bokeh effects. A Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit), internal zoom (which does not increase barrel length when zooming) and an Ultrasonic Silent Drive ring-type motor enable smooth operation and high-speed, accurate AF performance.

BEST DSLR SUPERZOOM LENS

Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD (Model B028)

Delivering an effective focal length range of 28-620mm (35mm equivalent) on APS-C DSLRs (varies slightly in Canon mounts), the moisture-resistant Tamron 18-400mm all-in-one 22.2X zoom is a mere 12.14cm (4.8 inches) long and weighs just 705g (24.9 oz). An HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive) is designed to save power and enables smooth AF operation, plus allows for a smaller AF module that helps reduce lens size. A new barrel design, which includes distribution of complex movement across three cams, insures smooth zooming. The lens also offers built-in vibration compensation of 2.5EV and, to expand its capabilities even further, a minimum focusing distance of 0.45m (17.7 inches).
