“The X-A5 packs Fujifilm’s renowned image quality and exciting fun features in a compact, lightweight body,” said Yuji Igarashi, general manager of the Electronic Imaging Division & Optical Devices Division at Fujifilm North America Corporation. “We are excited to bring a user-friendly camera that can capture great images to the market at an affordable price.”
X-A5 Enhanced Sensor & Color Reproduction
The X-A5 employs a 24.2 megapixel APS-C sensor equipped with phase-detection autofocus and a newly developed image-processing engine. Processing speed is now 1.5 times faster than that of previous models. Combined with Fujifilm’s color reproduction technology, the X-A5, Fujifilm says it “achieves outstanding image quality and outperforms previous models in its scene recognition accuracy and skin tone reproduction, making it perfect for portraits.”
Moreover, the X-A5 is the first in the X-A series to feature phase detection pixels and an intelligent hybrid AF system that focuses twice as fast as previous models to capture swiftly moving subjects. In addition, with an ISO sensitivity range now up to 12,800 and an extended sensitivity range of ISO 100–51,200, camera shake and noise are reduced, even during low-light shooting.
4K Video Capabilities
The X-A5 features a variety of 4K video capabilities. Utilizing its burst function, users can shoot 15 frames per second in 4K image quality. In addition, the camera offers an HD video function to record videos up to quad speed for slow motion clips. Also, a multi-focus mode stacks 4K quality images and automatically changes the depth-of-field setting to enhance creative possibilities.
In addition, the camera provides Full HD 1,920×1,080 recording at 60p/50p/24p and continuous recording up to 14 minutes. It also offers high-speed movie mode for 1,280×720 video at 1.6x, 2x, 3.3x 4x speeds.
And after photo and video capture, Bluetooth 4.1 technology enables the X-A5 to automatic transfer content to paired smart devices using the free Fujifilm Camera Remote app. The camera is also compatible with Instax Share printers, permitting the immediate transfer and printing of images directly from the camera.
Film Simulation Modes
In addition, the X-A5 allows for artistic expression through Fujifilm’s film simulation modes that are also said to boast the company’s advances in color reproduction. provides 11 film simulations, as well as 17 variations of creative filters. They include the new fog remove and HDR art filters.
Moreover, the camera has an improved user interface. Its 3-inch, 1.04M-dot LCD screen uses a new touch-panel GUI to facilitate intuitive operation. It is also capable of rotating 180º, for taking high-quality self-portraits. Furthermore, when the panel is rotated 180º, the rear command dial switches to the zoom and shutter release function. It also automatically activates the eye AF function to focus on the subject’s eyes. In addition, portrait enhancer mode allows for users to select from three levels of skin-tone enhancement with touch-screen operation.
Other features include: in-camera RAW processing; Wi-Fi connectivity; and an improved battery life for 450 frames.
Electric Powered Zoom Lens
The Fujinon XC15–45mm f/3.5–5.6 OIS PZ lightweight zoom has a two-inch minimum working distance for creating close-ups.
