Entropy—the eternal enemy. It can be exhausting to try to stay ahead of it when it’s approaching at every front, but it’s a necessary battle. It’s my duty today to remind you that your boxes of movie film (or your parents’ or your grandparents’) won’t last forever.
If the film was shot in the 1950s, it’s already about 75 years old. Even film that’s been stored under ideal conditions may very well start to degrade at that age.
Plus, even if the film lasts, projectors are growing harder to find, and ever-fewer people will think they’re worth the hassle of learning to use.
Good news: we can help make the memories contained on those film reels accessible and safe for another entropy cycle! (Just make sure that you keep moving the files to new storage as needed to keep them safe.) Mike’s Camera can transfer 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm film (with or without sound) to a digital format that can be archived, shared, and—most importantly—enjoyed at will.
For the entire month of June, we’ll make that even easier by taking 20% off the cost of any order. Take a trip to the past and keep your family legacy alive!

For obvious reasons, this promotion is in-store only; leave a comment below or contact any Mike’s Camera location for more information or if you have any questions at all about the process.
Reel film is transferred in real time to an .MP4 or .mov file, which is then transferred to customer- provided USB or Mike’s Camera USB. DVD or Blu-Ray are extra, and will hold up to 2 hours of transfer time per disc. Custom chaptering and title cards can be added to any project for a one-time set up fee of $30. Custom chapter points include a spot on the menu screen that points to a defined place in the video when the find button is pressed. Title cards are static screens with text.
