Sigma announced today two new super-wide-aperture lenses for a variety of mounts, one appropriate for APS-C sensors and one built for full frame mirrorless cameras.
The 15mm f/1.4 DC | Contemporary (for APS-C) will be available March 12th, for Sony E mount, Fujifilm X mount, and Canon RF mount.
The 35mm f/1.4 DG II | Art (for full frames) will be available April 16th for the L mount (used by Leica, Sigma, Panasonic, and more) and the Sony E mount.
Either one is poised to bring a new dimension of freedom to your artistic expression. Both are available for pre-order now, on our website (direct links below) and in any of our brick-and-mortar stores. Read on for more, and be sure to check out the diverse, breathtaking sample photos!
15mm f/1.4 DC | Contemporary

Weighing only 7.8 ounces and measuring roughly 2.5″ in both length and diameter, the 15mm f/1.4 DC | Contemporary is the lightest lens in the f/1.4 DC | Contemporary prime series and boasts a 30% length reduction and 13% reduction in filter diameter from the older 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | Contemporary. This is an eminently packable lens.
As it has been designed for APS-C sensors, the lens offers a 22.5mm full-frame-equivalent field of view (24mm on Canon cameras), which is a slightly wide “street” or day-to-day focal length. Combined with its compact nature and super-wide aperture, it’s a good candidate for a set-it-and-forget it lens, great for stars, cities, and breathtaking landscapes.
Although designed for smaller sensors, you can still expect excellent optical performance from the 15mm f/1.4 DC | Contemporary thanks to an FLD element and three SLD elements for correction of aberrations and careful engineering to ensure sharpness edge-to-edge.
The quick and accurate stepping motor autofocus system can operate effectively as closely as 7″ from your subject, creating excellent background separation when the aperture is wide open. This is quickly controlled thanks to a dedicated aperture ring, which also functions as a customizable control ring on Canon cameras. Dust- and splash-resistant design rounds out the package.
Order yours now for Sony E mount, Fujifilm X mount, or RF mount so you can hit the ground running after its March 12th release!

35mm f/1.4 DG II | Art

A second-gen revision of Sigma’s original flagship lens from 2021, the 35mm f/1.4 DG II | Art is a significant upgrade to an already well-loved lens. Sporting a gloriously wide aperture and an ideal focal length for portraits, street photography, fashion work, landscapes, and more, the range of art you can craft with this tool—both still and moving—is remarkable.
The autofocus system is driven by the same Dual HLA focus motor found in Sigma’s 35mm f/1.2 DG II | Art, which is exceptionally fast and quiet with minimal breathing. This change allowed a significant reduction in size and weight without compromising optical performance. How significant? The length was reduced by 14% and weight by 20%! (The new lens measures 2.9″x3.8″ and weighs just under 19 ounces.)
Optical performance is superior to the first generation as well, incorporating glass materials that were previously prohibitively difficult to process into four aspherical elements and two SLD glass elements as well as the newly-developed AAC coating. Aberrations? Squashed—including axial chromatic aberrations of the kinds that frequently haunt very-wide-aperture lenses. You can, of course, expect outstanding resolution throughout the entire frame.
As you might also expect from the Sigma | Art line, the lens features two AFL buttons, a focus mode switch, aperture ring detent switch, aperture ring lock, and dampened focus/aperture rings in addition to a dust- and splash-resistant design plus water- and oil-repellent coatings.
Available April 16th for both L mount and Sony E mount—order today, enjoy for a lifetime.
