Eye-catching: the Canon EOS R6 Mark III and RF45mm f/1.2 STM are here

Just in time for the holidays: Canon plans to deliver the brand new EOS R6 Mark III (standalone or in a kit with either the RF24–105mm F4 L IS USM lens or RF24–105mm f/4–7.1 IS STM lens) later this month, with the RF45mm f/1.2 STM following shortly after in December.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III

2022’s popular R6 Mark II gets an infusion of tech updates in the Mark III. Built to meet your demands and deliver stunning results, this 32.5 MP hybrid body will impress you with detailed captures up to 40 fps, including the anxiety-reducing buffer of up to 20 frames of pre-shooting (for those unpredictable moments).

The new sensor offers a 34% increase in resolution over the previous generation, and the DIGIC X image processor is prime to power intelligent, modern features—for example, you can program autofocus priority for certain specific faces! You can register up to six.

The Dual Pixel SMOS AF II system is faster and more accurate than ever, capable of detecting people, animals, vehicles, and more. Between the capable tracking system and an impressive 8.5 stops of shake correction at the center of focus (7.5 at periphery), you’re sure to nail more shots.

Videographers will be excited by a host of features to optimize your output:

  • Canon Log 2 with 15+ stops of dynamic range (among other color options)
  • In-camera LUT support
  • 7K RAW 60p
  • 7K30p Open Gate (for post-production field of view manipulation)
  • 4K 60p oversampled from 6K
  • 4K 120p slow motion
  • Built-in time lapse for fast motion
  • Movie Servo AF algorithm inherited from EOS Cinema C400/C80 imitates a manual focus pull more accurately
  • Canon Cinema monitoring tools (waveform, zebra, and many more)
  • CFexpress Type B card support up to 8 TB for endless internal recording

In-camera color expression has gotten a boost for every user. The Color Button brings up a new Custom Picture menu offering 14 easy color filters that anyone can enjoy, in addition to the several highly adjustable, professional color modes. Capture a precise vision, or play and be inspired!

The EOS R6 Mark III is built for durability, rated for at least half a million shutter actuations and heat-, water-, and dust-resistant. Click here for the camera’s full specifications… and to claim one of the very first ones!

Canon RF45mm f/1.2 STM

Super-bright! Small frame! Reasonable price! Boom!

Canon is filling in a significant gap with this lens, offering extreme wide-aperture performance at a very reasonable price. Capture low-light scenes and soft, narrowly-focused images like never before. (Note that the header image for this article was captured using the RF45mm f/1.2 STM.) And, thanks to the large diameter of the RF mount and the short back-focus distance, the engineers at Canon were able to keep it quite compact. Like all EOS RF lenses, the RF45mm f/1.2 STM sports a control ring on the front of the lens, so you’ll be able to intuitively control ISO, white balance, and more without breaking your focus.
