Panasonic announces creator-focused LUMIX S9 and 26mm f/8 pancake lens

The latest and grooviest creator’s kit from Panasonic is coming soon! Scheduled for release on June 10th, the LUMIX S9 is a full-frame camera in a micro body (and comes in stylish colors). Accompanying the S9 or separately, the LUMIX S 26mm f/8 pancake is an extraordinarily pocketable all-purpose street photo/videography lens.

LUMIX S9

The S9 has a super-duper-small, easy to use body, but that sleek design is packed with pro grade features. The 24.2 MP is, indeed, full-frame, unlocking a vastly higher tier of low-light performance and depth of field control over more common, smaller sensors. Plus, the built-in 5-stop stabilization system can be used to capture astonishing 96 MP hand-held high-res photos. The Phase Hybrid Detection AF system can track humans, animals, cars, and motorcycles with ease.

Videographers and vloggers need to take a close look at this one, too. With 14+ stops of V-Log/V-Gamut performance, 4:2:2 10-bit C4K 60p recording, and real-time LUT preview (always an exciting feature), this is a camera that makes creative control easy and powerful. In fact, with the LUMIX Lab app to complement the built-in controls, you can have professional footage ready and posted for your followers without ever opening your laptop or even leaving the beach. Make time-lapses, record super-slow-mo video, and more.

These innovative features and ease of use let you stand out as a social media creator. Choose a cool color and order today for release day delight!

LUMIX S 26mm f/8 (S-R26)

Just look at this little guy!

Less than an inch thick and only 2 ounces in weight, the LUMIX S 26mm f/8 is the definition of a pancake lens. (Compare this to the LUMIX S 24mm f/1.8, which is 4.5x as long and weighs 11 ounces… there’s the trade-off.) 26mm is a great focal length for off-the-cuff documentary shots, and the fixed f/8 aperture provides a good balance of decent light pass-through and effortless depth of field. Put it this way: you probably won’t stress the advanced autofocus features of your LUMIX at f/8. Panasonic did still squeeze in a focus control ring, and sample images show great resolution from edge to edge. When you must have the most minimal kit possible, you could hardly find a better choice!

Update: the new LUMIX Lab app for iOS has been launched and is available at the App Store. This app is currently compatible with the S9 and GH7, and will add compatibility with the S5II, S5IIX and G9II in the future.
