Half-week homework: A trip in signs

After the mad rush of the holidays, it’s not a bad idea to take a little trip to recharge before resuming business as usual for the new year. Even if it’s just a little weekend jaunt, it’s still a great opportunity for a photo project!

My challenge to you for this trip is to tell its tale using signs you find along the way. Many signs have hours and hours of artistic effort behind their creation, but it’s easy for the object itself to take a backseat to its communicative intention, so if you give your brain a note to really see them, you might be surprised what you come across. Of course, the appeal of some is how little effort went into them, but the point remains the same. Here are a few I got heading into the mountains for New Year’s Eve.

If you’re particularly pleased with the results of this challenge, they’d make a great photo book either for yourself, or as a unique gift for a traveling companion. Click here to design one now!

Be sure to share your favorite images with me, too. Leave a comment on our Facebook page, or post to Instagram with the tags #mymikescamera and #halfweekhomework. I look forward to your results, as always!
